Administratively it is located in Coyhaique Commune, Coyhaique Province, XI Aisen Region.



The Trapananda Reserve covers an area of ​​2,305 hectares.



Trapananda is the old name given to western Chilean Patagonia. It was created in 1992. Its old forest was heavily intervention, which left its obvious sequels.



The predominant plant species correspond to those of the vegetative formation of the Aisen Deciduous Seasonal Forest where the characteristic tree species is Lenga (Nothofagus pumilio).



The Reserve has no rangers. There is only a rustic shelter.



Located on the road to Ñirehuao. At Carretera Austral you reach Villa Ortega, north of Coyhaique and from there take the east road leading to Ñirehuao.



Coihaique is located 1,639 km south of Santiago de Chile and 618 km from Puerto Montt.



There are several alternatives to get to Coihaique:



By plane

There are daily departures from Santiago, some intermediate cities and Punta Arenas. Balmaceda Airport is 55 km away.



Bus

They reach the city via Route 5, Panamericana Sur. There are regular services from Santiago and the regional capitals.



By car

Via the Puerto Montt Southern Highway.



Among its most frequent faunas are the eagle, thrush, thrush and woodpecker among the birds. Among mammals you can find (with a bit of luck) Puma, Zorro Colorado and Red Deer.
