Located in front of a privileged view of the Calle Calle waterfront and river, and surrounded by a beautiful and tidy park, the Valdivia Historical Museum opens its doors daily to showcase the city's biggest cultural attractions.

The Andwandter House, as the National Historical Monument Museum is also known, has a neoclassical design. The façade has a lowered three-arched portico with a gabled roof and wooden walls.

Inside, there are several rooms, where the three main ethnic groups that collaborated in the creation of regional identity are represented.

The exhibited collections revolve around the early Americans who inhabited temperate forests 12,000 years ago, the early and constant Hispanic presence that determined the character of the city of Valdivia, and the impact of the German settlers who came to these sites from the year 1850. .

Many of these elements were obtained thanks to the valuable contribution of renowned historian and anthropologist Mauricio van de Maele, who is honored with the name of the museum.

On the first floor there is a valuable sample of the archaeological history of south-central Chile. Clearly, it is possible to see through the windows the indigenous contact with the Hispanics and the cultural contribution of the inhabitants of Mapuche-Williche. In addition, valuable collections of silver, ceramic, textile and baskets corresponding to the Pitrén Complex (300 AD - 1200 AD) and Valdivia Style (1400 AD - 1800 AD) can be observed. The exhibition tells the history of ceramic societies from the beginning of the Christian era until the nineteenth century.
